Seaford Bonfire Night takes place on Saturday 17 October 2026.

Seaford Bonfire Society has confirmed the date on its official website. Detailed arrangements for the 2026 celebration should be checked with the Society nearer the event, particularly procession timings and road closures.

Torchlit procession

Seaford’s celebrations traditionally begin with a torchlit procession through the town, bringing together the home society and visiting Bonfire societies from across Sussex.

The procession includes a stop at the War Memorial for an Act of Remembrance, before the Grand Procession continues towards the seafront and firesite.

Expect blazing torches, banners, bands and a huge variety of traditional costumes.

Seaford’s own members can be spotted in their distinctive purple and grey striped smugglers’ jumpers, while the Society’s First Pioneers are Pirates and its Second Pioneers are Saxons.

Bonfire and fireworks

The celebrations culminate at Martello Fields, close to Seaford seafront and the Martello Tower.

Here the procession enters the firesite before the spectacular Grand Firework Display and traditional bonfire.

The coastal setting makes Seaford particularly atmospheric, with the fireworks visible above the seafront and the glow of the bonfire lighting up Martello Fields.

Road closures and travel

Significant road closures and traffic restrictions should be expected around Martello Fields, the Esplanade and the procession route through Seaford.

The Society also warns that there is no designated disabled parking at the event. It tries to accommodate Blue Badge holders within the seafront road closure where possible, but spaces are limited.

Detailed 2026 road closure timings should be checked before travelling. Don’t rely on previous years’ arrangements, as restrictions and timings can change.

Safety

Seaford Bonfire Society asks spectators to remain well back on the pavement during the procession and follow instructions from marshals and event security.

Never pick up discarded torches. Even when they appear to have gone out, they can remain extremely hot and are collected by the Society’s dedicated torch-picking team.
