Buxted brings traditional Sussex Bonfire to the village with a spectacular evening of blazing torches, bonfire societies, costumes, fire and fireworks. Revived after a gap of more than 40 years, Buxted’s celebration is a relatively new addition to the modern Sussex Bonfire calendar but draws on all the traditions that make the season so distinctive.

Buxted Bonfire Society has confirmed its Torchlit Procession, Bonfire & Fireworks for Saturday 26 September, from 19:00 to 22:30. More detailed timings for the procession, bonfire and fireworks have not yet been published for 2026.
Torchlit procession
Expect the streets of Buxted to fill with burning torches, visiting societies and traditional Sussex Bonfire costumes as the procession makes its way through the village.
Buxted’s own members can be spotted in their distinctive black and olive-green striped smugglers’ jumpers, alongside the Society’s Stag Warrior and Huntsman pioneer costumes.
Bonfire and fireworks
The procession is followed by a traditional bonfire and fireworks display.
Buxted Bonfire Society raises money throughout the year to fund the celebration, while its Bonfire Night bucket collection supports good causes in the local community. Bring some cash and give generously if you can.
Travel and road closures
Detailed 2026 road closures, procession routes and parking arrangements have not yet been published.
For previous celebrations, the Society has encouraged visitors to travel by train where possible, with only limited parking available in the village. Visitors should avoid parking along the procession route.
