Burgess Hill brings the Sussex Bonfire season to Mid Sussex with a spectacular evening of torchlit processions, visiting bonfire societies, traditional costumes, bonfire and fireworks. Thousands usually line the streets as societies, drummers and bands make their way through the town before heading to Fairfield Recreation Ground for the fiery finale.

Processions
Burgess Hill’s celebrations traditionally attract a large contingent from the Sussex Bonfire community. Previous events have seen around 1,500 people take part, including visiting societies, local groups and bands, creating an impressive torchlit spectacle through the town.
Expect traditional Sussex bonfire costumes, blazing torches, drums and plenty of noise as the processions make their way through Burgess Hill.
Bonfire and fireworks
The evening culminates at Fairfield Recreation Ground, where the bonfire is followed by the firework display.
The event is organised by Burgess Hill Bonfire Society and is free to attend, with collections helping the Society meet the considerable cost of staging the celebrations safely each year.
Travel and road closures
Road closures and traffic restrictions are expected in the town centre during the processions. Full details and timings for the 2026 closures have not yet been published, so visitors should check the latest information before travelling.
With large crowds expected, allow plenty of time to arrive and be prepared to walk into the town centre and procession area.
