Torchlit procession
Heathfield’s procession brings together the home society and visiting bonfire societies from across Sussex for an atmospheric evening of fire, costume and noise.
Look out for Heathfield’s distinctive green, white and black striped smugglers, worn with white trousers and a red spotted scarf.
The Society’s First Pioneer costume is Day of the Dead, chosen as a colourful way of reflecting the remembrance that forms an important part of Sussex Bonfire and, in particular, remembering the Heathfield Martyrs.
Bonfire and fireworks
The torchlit procession is followed by the traditional bonfire and fireworks display.
Heathfield & District Bonfire Society is a non-profit community organisation, with surplus funds from its activities going back into the community to support local charities, groups and causes.
A revived Heathfield tradition
Heathfield & District Bonfire Society was reformed in 2018 by a group of local Bonfire enthusiasts who wanted to bring a traditional torchlight procession and Bonfire celebration back to the town.
Since then, the Society has become part of the wider Sussex Bonfire season, attending other societies’ celebrations as well as welcoming visiting societies to Heathfield for its own night.
Road closures and travel
Road closures and traffic restrictions should be expected in Heathfield during the celebration.
Detailed 2026 road closures, parking arrangements and procession routes have not yet been published, at time of writing.
Check the Society’s latest information before setting off and allow extra time to reach the procession area on foot.
